First league win of season against local rivals Milford

Lads...... well played! What a great feeling to get our first points of the season against our friends and neighbours in such emphatic style. Make no mistake, we thoroughly deserved the win against a very good, seasoned Milford side that just wouldn't lie down.

We started with a bang. Inside a minute Nick and Cosser combined to rob their defender of the ball, cos drew the keeper and nick rolled home. One nil to the Dons and the roar at the Hambledon end was deafening.

Focus, don't panic!! Well, we did our best but I think we got ahead of ourselves as we began to get niggly with each other as Milford finally woke up, winning a succession of corners and really piling the pressure on.

Maybe we were all trying too hard (or just not listening to each other) but we looked a bit ragged midway through the half, and eventually the Milford left winger broke free and crossed to the back post where their right midfielder got to the ball first and hit a worldy past Dave off the post. One all on the half hour. We had no complaints.

We got to half time on level terms, partly thanks to Dave for a couple of good saves, one in particular when he foiled their striker who was clean through. Great stuff.

Lots of opinions aired at half time showed our desire and we attacked Milford from the off, down the slope, towards their supporters. Nick took a shot from outside the area that flew past their keeper and we were back in the ascendancy.

Two minutes later summed up our performance, particularly second half. James ran down the left, got smacked in the bollocks but refused to go down and ended up slotting the ball past the keeper to give us a 3-1 lead, before going down in a lot of pain, and having to come off. Most people would have gone down but he battled on and doubled our lead. A thoroughly deserved first Hambledon goal after a great start to the season.

I then massively fukked up by allowing a ball to run out for a throw. It never crossed the line, Milford reacted first, crossed and scored. Our two goal lead gone and I felt a bit silly! Sorry lads. First rule of football- play the whistle. Idiot.

Anyway, we battled on and nick got his hattrick after yet another mix up at the back, again rolling the ball into an empty net. He then took one for the team by shoring things up at the back for the last 15.

A great win and one that I feel we deserved both on the day and over the last few weeks when we have really stepped things up. Odiham seems a long way away now- the established players have clicked once again and the new players have bedded in nicely. Brilliant.

Man of the match is nick- hattrick hero against his brother and then defending our lead at the end. I mean this in the best possible way- put that effort in every week and you will be unstoppable. Special mentions to Dave for his first half saves, james for putting his balls on the line, cos for a momentous effort all game, and creating two of the goals, and JT for a very assured return to the side.
