The Dons travelled to Kings Manor to face a tough team. They welcomed Ben and Joe back from the first team. And Thomas Whiteford was back from Uni as he had run out of clean pants so the Dons had the luxury of 2 on the bench. Despite being nearly mid October it had a preseason feel with a very warm autumn day.
After Vinnie explained to the older lads what ''Jacks'' meant in the warm up the Dons were ready to go. However they started very slowly and it was Guildford who had the early running. A host of freekicks were given away around the box but Guildford couldn't test Callum in goal. The Dons were huffing and puffing in the heat but actually created the best chances of the first half. Ben couldn't get a header on target and saw a shot cleared off the line. And Batch crashed a header against the bar with Dave Tye and Aidan putting chances just over.
A combination of poor finishing and last ditch tackles kept Callu relatively untroubled in the first half.
Half time and 0-0. Thomas and Simmo were introduced at half time as Batch nearly knocked himself out on the dugout.
Guildford continued to throw men forward but again never really troubled the goal. Kiley saw a headed deflected off the line as the Dons pushed for the goal. as Carlo said at half time one goal would probably settle the game and the Dons had the breakthrough. A clearance was smashed into Thomas's face and fell kindly to Vinnie who beat the keeper to give the Dons the vital first goal. Thomas had to go off to check no damage but it was one hell of an assist.
Guildford weren't beaten and helped by a late show sub for the last 30 mins. Again they had a lot of the ball but never really tested Callum. And started to take their frustration out first on Batch and then Gav on the line. Callum was also taken out late but the ref was already wacthing the ball.
The Dons had chances on the break to put the game ot bed but some good game management saw out the win.
By no means at their best but another three points see the good start to the season continue. Next up AFC Holloway a new team to the league.
MOM - Batch with a dominant display and made some new friends with some Guildford lads. All the back line were excellent again.
