Reserves battle to three important points in top of table clash

The Dons travelled to Desborough Island to face top of the table Hersham as the season entered the business stage. Desborough island seemed to have enjoyed a transformation not seen sine Wayne Ronney's hairline and they were greeted to a lovely playing surface. Kiley continued to fill in for Joel as Allen came in for the injured Box and Louis stayed with the first team.

The Ref met the managers and took them through his 'Step into my office policy' also saying he didn't use the Sin bin process, famous last words and more to come.

The Dons started well in an opening half full of quality. The ball was generally being kept on the deck by both teams, and the Dons were having some joy down Hersham's right hand side, with Jamie Grove causing his full back all sorts of problems. The first real chance fell to Cheese, who turned away from his man but couldn't get his shot away with the defender recovering well. The Dons kept pressing, and Joe was now getting more involved coming off the right flank. One of his runs inside caused the ball to break to Ben on the edge of the box, but his lob just crept over the bar with the 'keeper rushing out. The Dons finally got the reward their start had deserved, when Batch was pulled to the ground at a corner. Cheese stepped up and channeled his inner Boxall by smashing it down the middle. The 'keeper's trailing legs threatened to keep it out, but the ball squirmed through to put the Dons ahead. Hersham responded well to going behind, and were starting to get a bit more joy in between the lines. Having said that, they didn't create any clear chances, and the best they managed was a flicked header from a free kick. It looked destined to loop into the corner until Callum pulled off the save of the season to tip behind for a corner. Despite finishing the half on the back foot, the Dons went into the break 1-0 up having looked solid but with room for improvement.

With a massive 45 minutes ahead, the Dons looked to step it up a gear but it was Hersham who started stronger. Everything was going through their tricky left winger, but Petri and Batch were dealing with any danger down the right-hand side. The winger finally got some joy with some clever play, beating Petri inside the box and hitting the deck despite it being questionable whether there was any contact from the full-back. Regardless, the ref pointed to the spot, but the Dons were relieved to see the striker smash his penalty against the bar. Hersham were starting to get frustrated, throwing in a few naughty tackles but still dominating the game. Then, against the run of play, the Dons had their chance. Kiley beat his man to a loose ball, Allen threaded the ball through to Cheese who turned and played Ben through on goal. The striker took one touch before tucking it home with his left foot, and the Dons suddenly had a 2-0 lead against the run of play. The rest of the game followed a similar pattern to before, with Hersham growing increasingly frustrated and the Dons' defence dealing with everything that was being thrown at them. The ref was now struggling to keep a lid on things, handing out sin bins to Allen then a Hersham player for both very little. And Toby picked a yellow up for delaying the start of play and had to be scarificed with the now card happy ref.
The Dons had chances to but the game to bed with Jamie Grove going round the keeper but forced wide and his pull back couldn't be forced home. And Paul Cook saw an acrobatic effort over the bar.

With chief wind-up merchant Batch leading the charge, the Dons held out to full time, going three points clear at the top of the league with two games to play.

MOTM - Matt Kiley, a huge performance at the centre of a solid defensive display.

Next up the Dons welcome Guildford United in a tricky midweek fixture at Badger Park.
