It was first vs second at the University of Surrey as The Dons looked to remain unbeaten.
With Mazza & Felix injured, in came Will Grove fresh from serving his suspension & young Josh Hitchcock who had impressed early on this season.
Both started in a 4-2-3-1 with Kuda leading the line following his sexy hat trick last week.
Cafu, otherwise known as Dan Rice came into right back with Ollie Calcott on the bench with Jack Field and Matt Metcalfe.
The ever present Luke Winter, Ryan Luff and Calum Roots made up the back four while a strong trio of Tom Winter, Chris AS9 Turner and Greg Lyall in the middle of the park.
Uni started brightly as we’d expected, popping the ball about and looking for an early goal.
A trait that reflected the whole game was Hambledons shape and work rate to force them out wide and not allow anything through the middle. The three lads in the centre worked hard to break up the play.
With two tricky pacey wingers out wide, Calum and Dan had their work cut out. Both early on made good challenges to stop their opposite number getting passed them.
Luffy and Skipper Luke were clicking again following a consistent run of games and were marshalling the back four and two in front well.
Following build up play down the left, the uni winger cut inside, laid the ball back to a team mate who shot on target only to see the in form Will make a solid save.
Hambledon when in possession were doing their best to move the ball inside and back out wide and a few times got down well on the left only for play to break down.
The hard work and shape paid off on 27 minutes when Will Grove broke the deadlock.
Following good work from Calum and Josh, Greg picked the ball up and played in Kuda, who after being slowed down by the on rushing keeper heard Will Grove scream for the ball before hitting his left footed shot into the left hand corner!
0-1 Will Grove
Buoyed by the goal The Dons continued to keep good shape and stay disciplined.
Not five minutes later though, Uni’s centre half would be taking a spot kick. Ryan Luff gave away a penalty following tricky play by the left winger. Will stood firm and guessed right but saw the attempt go far wide of his left hand post
Five minutes after that it was 2-0 to the away side. A Will goal kick was won in the air by Chris Turner and after securing the ball, Dan Rice clipped a pass over the defence into the path of the running Kuda who calmly took it past the keeper and slotted home from a tight angle.
0-2 Kuda
HT
Rice was replaced by Calcott at the break.
A good start to the half was halted when Greg Lyall saw Red! What seemed to be a strong but fair challenge was deemed dangerous by the referee who was quick to send off Lyall!
Hambledon had to now dig deep and defend well for most of the second half!
They did so for the most part but really frustratingly let Uni back into the game but not picking up a short corner allowing a free header from 8 yards out!
Game on.
Will made some good saves during the second half when Hambledon were defending well and only allowing Uni to shoot from range.
One attempt was hit really well and just missed the target from 25 yards out!
The introduction of Matt Metcalfe and Jack Field on 61 and 65 minutes gave the dons fresh legs and Kuda was played in by Metcalfe who saw his lob caught easily by keeper who was rushing back to his line!
Unfortunately for the away side an equaliser cane with ten minutes to go when the ball somehow fell into the path of the only player in the box- who turned and shot was deflected into the corner.
Uni pushed for a winner but Hambledon defended well to get a point and remain unbeaten.
