The Dons travelled to Guildford United for their second league game against the ‘title favourites’
Last time out the sides shared the points and Hambledon were looking to kick start their season.
The weather wouldn’t play a part today as the game was being played on 4G.
Hambledon lined up 3-5-2 with Matt Metcalfe coming back into the starting XI.
The first 15 minutes was fairly even, however the home side were showing intent and looking to get in behind the back three of Jay, Luffy and skipper Luke.
Ollie and Calum occupied the wings with jack and Allen anchoring the midfield.
Felix and Kuda lead the line.
20 minutes in and the away side had the ball in the back of the net. Metcalfe read a pass and intercepted the ball before playing in Felix who raced down on goal and slotted the ball away.
It was close and he was judged to be offside.
Only 5 minutes later and United took the lead. The ball wasn’t cleared properly at the left back and it fell onto the edge of the box before finding the striker who hit his left footed shot into the near corner.
Minutes later The Dons were 2-0 down. A free kick from the left was lifted into the box. Matt Mullins misjudged the flight and the ball dropped down the far post and bounced off 2 players before being poked into an empty net.
Hambledon had to consolidate and regain some control of the game.
It took five minutes for a response.
Jack played a ball into Allen who opened his body up and played a 20 yard pass into the path of Calum.
Calum played a low drive into the box and Felix reacted quickly enough to stab home.
2-1
The way side now had some belief and made the score level on 35 minutes.
Luff drilled in a cross from just inside United’s half and the defender nodded into his own net.
HT 2-2
Skipper Winter aggravated his hamstring just before the break so Manager Will Grove came on to right wing back.
The second half was much the same, United pushing forward and forced Matt Mullins into two good saves during the half.
The talking points came late on but before that luff was fortunate that his team mates were covering around when he lost the ball on the half way line and made a rash tackle by taking down the striker who was bounding toward goal.
United went back in front when they’re right centre half ran from inside his box, exchanging passes before calmly slotting home from 6 yards.
3-2
Will Grove and Calum Roots were offering width and putting in some good crosses.
Kuda found himself 1v1 with the keeper who came out very quickly to stop the shot.
With 4 minutes to go a penalty was awarded to Hambledon.
After a mix up between the defender and keeper Kuda nicked in and poked the ball past the keeper who was adjudged to take Kuda out before making a save.
Felix stepped up and struck his penalty into the bottom right corner- the keeper got a hand to it but it was too hot to handle.
3-3 and a well earned point.
Good luck to United for the rest of the season.
MOM Kuda Kamoto.
