Quick and powerful starts have been characteristic of The Dons' this season but this was distinctly lacking as the boys struggled to get a grip on the game in the early stages. Old Wimbledonians looked slicker, more organised and dominated the weight of possession in a first period that saw few opportunities. That said, poor defending allowed the opposition attack to breeze through the lines and a fine shot from just outside the box left 'keeper Russ with no chance.
A rollocking at half-time from Gaffer Taafe was the wake-up call that was needed and The Dons' started to assert their authority in the second half. Chances were still few and far between, with the narrow pitch adversely affecting the wide-play that often proves so fruitful. And then a moment of magic from Prosser, who swivelled in the middle of the park and played a superb ball through the middle, splitting open the oppo's defence. Racing onto it was Richards who, despite calls of "you're through mate, don't f*** it up!", kept his calm and slotted home beyond the on-rushing 'keeper.
Despite pushing on for the final twenty minutes, The Dons' could not find the winner, although Pateman was exceptionally unlucky, hitting the top of the bar after a fine move down the right flank. Teager thought he had won it for The Dons' after a cross by Gardner was nodded down by Prosser for him to smash home. Offside - a case of the 'Patemans'... Gutting.
