With 'gaffer John Taffe just delighted to have a team at his disposal, The Dons' knew they were up against it - a Wrecclesham side who had their pride hurt at Badger Park only a couple of weeks ago, where we eased through to the next round of the cup with an emphatic 5-0 victory.

The first half was a scrappy and intense affair, with neither side creating any real chances. 'Keeper Russ was called into action in the dying embers of the half, making yet another 'worldie' of a save, tipping over a fierce drive that looked bound for the roof of the net.

Fresh legs a'plenty and a renewed energy and determination met the second half, including Whippet Teager who had only just about recovered from his successful visit to the 'masseuse'. And it was Teager who broke the dead lock, capitalising on a mistake from the oppo's defence and somehow swinging in a left foot drive from a tight angle.

Teager wasn't finished there and moments later won a header on the penalty spot and looped it over a flappingly helpless keeper.

And then a moment of utter magic. The ever-present and midfield-dominating Evans called loudest and plucked a volley out of the air on the edge of the box and 'boom' it was in the back of the net. An absolutely ridiculous finish.

Boxall had terrorised the oppo's left back all game and it was no surprise when he found himself clear of his marker, finding himself well clear and in a one-on-one with the 'keeper. Cool as you like, he slotted home, putting the game well and truly out of reach.

Keen to recapture the 'super-sub' appearance that grabbed three points for The Dons' last week, Cleaves was reintroduced and found himself battling off a flailing centre back. With the 'keeper bumbling off his line helplessly, Cleaves hit a sweet and dinking shot that found the corner of the net.

The Dons' then had to do a rare bit of defending as Wrecclesham pumped a long ball over the top. When 'keeper Russ darted off his line and subsequently got poll-axed by the oppo's striker, there was a strange hush around the pitch as a penalty was awarded. No words.

But there was still time to ensure that the statutory five goal gap between the sides was maintained as Evans finished with aplomb.

And that's how it stayed with The Dons' climbing to the summit of the table while Wrecclesham appear to be rapidly sinking with no buoyancy aids in sight.
